Jan MAP Results

Finally getting round to putting up my results for this past months MAP.  It wasn’t the best for me, struggled with most of the workouts and had a few slips with the diet.  Motivation was lacking after a few things that happened during the month.  But I stuck with as much as I could and thought I would see what would happen anyways.  I did learn a lot more about what my body can intake food wise, than I had on any other MAP.  This I will list at the end.

The original measurements and photos are at https://johnmapjanuary.wordpress.com/2011/01/02/countdown-cont…nts-and-photos/

I took the end results on Monday, the last day of January and they are as follows, with improvements.

  • Weight – 74kg/163lb down by 3.3kg/7.4lbs
  • Chest – 38in up 1in
  • Belly Button – 32in down 3in
  • Upper Arm – 11.5in down half an inch
  • Bum – 38.5in down 1in
  • Thigh 4in above knee – 19in no change
  • Thigh 8in above knee – 22.5in up 1in

There were improvements which I am happy with and I can now continue with the long road to getting the body tuned in for long jump.

I have tested a few foods and reacted badly to most of them.  Wheat gives me head ache and bloating.  Cheeses also gives me head ache and bloating but also stomach pains.  Chocolate gives me heartburn.  I may have to get checked for lactose intolerance.  I have also eaten chinese food and that gave me severe bloating so that is now off the menu for the rest of my life.

On Monday I restart 100% ED, but with out the Wave for the rest of February.  Claire is joining me on this.

I’ve joined a local gym with good facilities and had 3 free personal trainer sessions.  I will keep using the PT as he is very good, and has given me bits that will help with my long jump.

Almost the end

Well, its almost the end of MAP January and its been an up and down journey but one that I have learnt more from than any other.

My body is already responding to bad foods going into it and this was very evident this weekend.  Went for an all you can eat Chinese on Friday night.  Ended up getting very bloated and then also couldn’t go to the loo yesterday and struggled a little today.  Still bloated.

Did all my exercises during the week and it shows on my muscles, chest is looking much better and so is the shape of my arms.

I will be doing the diet for the duration of Feb as well so I can get the belly down better.  Claire is going to join me from the second week of Feb.  On that point, does the diet work for smokers?

I’m going to keep the exercise going and have now signed up fully for the gym.  What I will do is post an update each Monday with pictures just like we have been doing this month.

Another day

Fast went well the other day and exercise has been pretty good.  Its been nice doing the evening session at the gym.

Had a little slip last night, or more accurately, I came hurtling towards the Earth like a giant asteroid and plummeted into the planet obliterating everything.  Went to the local Toby Carvery after the gym and it was curry night.  So, not only did I have a full roast dinner with all the trimmings like stuffing etc but also had a plateful of chicken saag tikka.  It was very tasty though.  The results this time, I spent the evening with a bloated belly, burping alot and woke up this morning to find that I was 1.5kg heavieer than yesterday morning.  But again, it’s a learning experience, the exercise helps but it really is the food that keeps the body in shape and to the weight we like.  It is a shame though as stuffing is one of my favorite foods, I was even tempted to go back up for just a plate of stuffing with sauces (which I have done in the past).  If anyone knows a ED friendly way of making a tasty stuffing I would love to try it out :-).  I am currently trying to find a good recipe for ED yorkshires, so far best I have are wheat and gluten-free but still with diary.

Return of the Blog

I have to say, the blog part of this is proving very hard to keep up this time around.  It’s probably because I just want to play computer games lol.

Anyways, the weekend went right of the rails.  Thursday was spent packing and traveling back down to my mum’s then off to London for a trip to see Wicked.  There was a 3 mile walk done along the Thames but that was the only exercise that I did.  The diet was stuck to though.

Friday was ment to be a fast day but as I was due to be out in the evening I opted to have lunch and see if I could go all the way round to lunch the next day.  The lunch was not ideal, had chicken pasta bake made from gluten free pasta.  Managed to get a workout done in the morning.  The rest of the day was spent at Bluewater (almost 4 and a half hours) then it was on to a quiz night.  By now I was beginning to get very hungry and with nothing else available, I ended up having two slices of Chocolate Cake that had been bought to celebrate my mum’s birthday.  I then also consumed a whole tub (one of those big big tubs) of passion fruit and mango yogurt (one of about 4 tubs I had over the weekend, other flavours were rhubarb and also lemon zest).

The result of the cake and yogurt???? Headache, horrible aching headache.

The Saturday wasn’t much better.  No workouts were done and it was another day spent at Bluewater, this time catching up with a good mate whom I hadn’t seen for a while.  I did have a sandwich this day, chicken and bacon.  In the evening, Claire and I took my mum to an Indian for her birthday.  Again I had wheat, a garlic Naan along with my curry and rice.  The Naan resulted in instant bloating, so much so, that I could not finish my curry sauce.  We also had ice cream once we got home.

Sunday was another day spent at the shops, this time Lakeside on our way back to Stevenage.  Dinner was a little better but I did have haloumi and also a bun with my burger (though it was a proper GBK burger).  Again though, I got bloated.

The weekend did serve though to help me decide how I would continue with the diet after the program has all finished.  Firstly, Wheat is a no no, it bloats me straight away all of the time.  Also, things with sugar added to them need to be kept to a minimum, especially large tubs of fruity yogurt.  Thirdly, I think I may use my mum’s house as kind of a treat place.  So when I go and visit her I will not be too worried about what diet I follow and therefore not over burden her with making sure she has all the “right” foods for me that day.  We tend to visit once a month so this can easily be kept in check.

I was going to go on about choices and how we always make the choice ourselves, what we put in our bodies is our choice etc etc but the train of thought on that has vanished slightly since I was thinking of it a few days back.  I was then going to mention about smoking and how it also is a choice and doing it because you “enjoy” it even though it destroys the whole body.  But again I’ll leave that for now and just continue to express my feelings on the matter to Claire, how she chooses not to eat wheat coz it causes pain even though she enjoys it yet still smokes because she enjoys it even though it does a heck of a lot more damage.  It’s all way too illogical to me and I really don’t understand it at all.

I have also been thinking of how to continue the exercise once the program finishes and what works best for me.  I’m finding it very difficult to get things done at the weekend other than a proper athletics training session, so will have my weekends free from circuits.  During the weeks I will look to train more often in the evening and do a Dax Moy session first thing, rotating them throughout the week.  I am also considering joining a gym at some point.

Yesterday was ment to be a measurement day.  After the weekend I had there wasn’t really going to be much improvement at all.  The only things to change was my chest is half an inch bigger and my thigh 4 inches above knee is now an inch smaller.  Also my weight is either now 75kg (my scales) or 73.5kg (nurses scales).  I had a new patient health check yesterday (its pretty crap, highest amount of exercise on the checklist was 5 times a week) and came out with BP of 116/64 and pulse of 60bpm.  Not too bad.

On to the last week, todays fast is going well.  Lets see if I can get back on track.

Day 15

Day 15 wasn’t too bad, first day in a while that I did all 4 workouts.  I will take my measurements on Day 16 so you can all keep updated.

Day um where we at now??

Not blogged for a few days and now forgotten how far in I am. The workouts have been ok, took the weight down for DB Matrix on Friday.

Yesterday I didn’t do any sessions, instead went and watched a mate compete at the southern champs. Today I visited the track for a brief jumps session and some short sprints.

I have been struggling with the no carb days, no energy or flavour and bored of nuts. Yesterday I had some chips with dinner, a day early for carbs. And today will be good, got dragon fruit, passion fruit, blueberries and pomegranate to have 🙂

I have to admit, I’ve not put 100 % into the workouts, yet my body is looking much better at this stage than it did last time and I have lost a bit more weight since last week. I was 73.9kg on friday 🙂

All the best to everyone else 🙂

Day 10

For some reason, this round of the MAP is harder than any I have done before.  I’m struggling with motivation, getting cravings for cream buns and coke, and keep putting off workouts till later and later in the day.

I changed the order of the work outs too today, doing Power Circuit first then ICP then Meltdown.  The Power Circuit I am getting through well every time, but the ICP didn’t go as well.  I only managed to finish 3 rounds before putting the weights down and saying no more :-(.  Last time I did MAP there was not a single time that I did less than the 5 and sometimes even did 6 rounds.  I did finish the Meltdown today, which I haven’t done the last two times.  Though I did not start it till around 8pm.  Normally I have done all 4 work outs by half 5.  As I had left it so late to do this one, it left no time for the cardio session.

I am also finding that my energy has dropped off a lot, and I struggled with the push ups during the Meltdown, on the last set I only managed 8.

Food has been good though.  The addition of fruit and juice back into the diet helped with the strange taste and feeling in my mouth from the last couple days.  However, I did see a lovely cream filled finger donut, it was huge and looked so good.

I cooked dinner for us all tonight (that’s me Claire and her parents).  I made a Chicken Makhani curry, from scratch.  Turned out good, though still room for improvement on it.  I did want to eat some of the garlic bread that was on the table though.

One of the reasons that I think I am lacking with motivation is that in my head I saw this program to be a good thing to do whilst Claire gave up smoking.  However, Claire is now smoking again and thus my motivation dropped.  It’s like Claire gave up, so what’s the point me continuing with this.  I am sticking as well as I can to the program and Claire keeps telling me that my body has improved a lot.

I hope everyone is fairing better on the program right now 🙂

Day 8 and 9 and Updated Measurements

So, managed to get back into all the routines yesterday.  Though did find the exercises very hard, especially the pyramid.  Using the much heavier weights is a bummer for that one lol.  I also started the wave, though at about 8pm I got a weird taste in my mouth, one from not having anything with flavour in it all day.

Today, the exercises went pretty well, I upped the weight for the ICP to 13kg, and this went very well.  The pyramid, once again, I found very hard.  Both times only getting to level 4 on the way up.  Had a few minutes left but was struggling to lift anything at all.  I am wondering if it would be best to drop a lot of the weight for this circuit so that I can get the reps done, or keep the weight high, therefore complete less of the sets, but every set will push me.  That might be a question I will have to put to the forum 🙂

Went and met Claire for lunch today and the pub were very good with the food, I mentioned all the bits from my choice that I couldn’t have (like chips, tomato, peas and onion rings) and they gave me alternatives, had a lovely salad with my gammon and also extra eggs 🙂

On to the updated measurements.

  • Body weight – 74.9kg/165.1lbs  down 5.3lbs 🙂
  • Chest – 37in  same
  • Belly button – 34in down 1 inch
  • Butt – 39in down half an inch
  • Upper arm – 11.5in down half an inch
  • Thigh 4in from knee – 19in same
  • Thigh 8in from knee – 22in up half an inch

New pictures

Not bad so far, lots more improvements to go though 🙂

Day 7

Day 7 for me was a complete non event in terms of MAP.  After what happened Saturday evening, I ended up getting only 2 hours sleep.  When I awoke, I made the decision that I would try out the local track and do my first sprint session in 4 months.  However I was still not feeling in that good a mood and was very down.  But after a lovely bonding session and a let out of emotion (lol, very strange for me) my whole mood changed and I was, and still am, the happiest man alive :-).

So, I went to the track, feeling very good and looking forward to how it would go.  Claire came with me, first time she has got to see me train.  The session was 2x60m, 2x80m, 2x100m and 2×120.  I felt very loose on the shorter runs, not quick though, but that is to be expected.  On the longer runs, I fatigued very quickly.  The after effects of the session were that my legs ached a hell of a lot.

After the whole show of emotion in the morning, I decided that I would miss MAP for the day, not because I was feeling lazy, but that I wanted to spend all day with Claire with no distractions at all.  I did stick to ED3.o though, except, didn’t start the wave yet.

I’ll be putting my progress on here later with updated pics, along with Day 8 blog 🙂
